RH Bill: Education vs. Condoms (My Thoughts)
This photo has been circulating all over the internet and it has inspired me to write a blog entry on it. Read up if you want to hear my two cents.

I'd call this mismanagement and (very)
improper allocation of resources.
We hear our fellow Filipinos complain
about how incompetent the youth is when it comes to academics. What’s worse is
that we look down on them instead of doing what we can to help them out.
Just this year, the Philippine Government has begun implementing the K12+ program, which, a lot of us, thought was stupid (admittedly, I am one of those who think that). Personally, I am against it because as of the present moment, we lack the facilities and the resources needed to support this program.

Now, the photo above presents us with two options. Before we make a choice, let us do a quick analysis of each.
Option 1: We invest our Php 3B in the purchase of condoms and other artificial birth control methods. In a sentence, this option will be limiting the number of births in the country. Moreover, this also implies that any couple (or groups of people) would be very free to have sexual intercourse. "Safe" sex, as they would like to call it. But then again, do those contraceptives guarantee that the woman would not be pregnant after experiencing the pleasures of the flesh? Perhaps, they do. However, there are still sexually transmitted diseases that neither the latex nor the solutions could prevent such as the human papillomavirus. Oh, and did I mention that these STDs spread around quickly amongst those who engage in "casual" or "safe" sex—most especially with those who have multiple sex partners? So much for having friends with BENEFITS, don't you think? (I won’t go talking about how this belittle the value of the marital act—i.e. sex—as that would require a much longer discussion and I’m trying to keep this as short as I can.)

Option 2: We invest our Php 3B in the
construction of school buildings (and classrooms, of course), rigorous
trainings for the teachers, and purchase of school materials to be given to public
school students.
In a nutshell,
this option would open the doors for the improvement of the country’s
educational system. (I believe this needs no further explanation. Hence, I leave it at that.)
Now, tell me,
which of the two options should we invest our money in? As for me, I go with Option 2. Hands down.
Before you make your choice and to close this blog post, I would like to repeat what Bishop Teodoro Bacani said in the RH Bill The Grand Debate, and I wish you would reflect on it as much as I did:
